Following a business trip to London on Thursday and Friday and dodgy weather across the weekend I was more than a little grateful for the hour or so I managed to grab out on Gopa Hill last night. Longer evenings continue to open up new opportunities and I was determined to capture another sunset, a simple goal with which mother nature fortunately agreed. What little cloud there was only helped to enhance the colours as ‘that’ tree which always features on my blog around this time of year was once more pressed into duty. For its previous star turns check here and here.

As good as the display was it was hard to ignore a newborn lamb in the neighbouring field. Although not my first of the year (that honour goes to a sheep somewhere in mid Wales) it is the first on any of our local farms and another important tick on my personal roadmap to summer. Unsurprisingly given the less than stellar weather of late it was still sticking closely to its mother where, in the soft evening light, they proved remarkably photogenic.

With dusk rapidly setting in there were still a good number of birds in song, loudest of which was a Blue Tit that clearly objected to my presence. Blackbirds and Robins provided the main soundtrack yet how I long for the return of Chiffchaffs and Willow Warblers. Incidentally I should probably mention for prosperity that a short outing to Kidwelly Quay on Sunday did turn up two of the former, presumably overwintering birds as opposed to early arrivals.

Also passing overhead were a varied assortment of Corvids with Rooks and Crows being by far the most numerous. Most looked to be on their way down to the estuary, a fairly common sight each evening though I’m still not sure of their final destination. The Starling flock however was easier to place and reminded me that I must try and record the sound from their roost some time.

Sunset over the Loughor

The view looking out across the Loughor to Gower and beyond is one that always lifts the spirit, even when facing into a brisk north-westerly as on this occasion. Having spent much of the week in stuffy offices however the slow loss of sensation in my fingertips was a welcome feeling. Give me the cool, fresh country air over a big city any day.

Love the first shot of the tree silhouetted against the sunset, and the adorable pictures of the baby lamb with it's mom. I also enjoyed your other photos of birds and squirrel, and an amazing red sunset with the tree.
Regards.

Nice shots. Its officially autumn here – and I almost think you can feel a chill in the air at night – not that it is ever really cold here in Melbourne!
